DETAILS
Built between 7-9th December 1959, this MkI two-seat (BN7) roadster is an original numbers car beautifully finished in the very desirable Healey Blue metallic on Navy interior colour scheme. The two-seater cars are coveted for their pure lines and competition heritage, periodically winning international rally stages in the 1950s and ‘60s thanks to the near 50-50 handling balance and lightweight, robust construction of the Healey platform.
This Healey 846 UYL is a very high standard car, near flawless externally and presented in supreme mechanical fettle having been continually upgraded and maintained to an extremely high standard by the present owner. 846 UYL was extensively restored in 1991 with a high level of attention to detail throughout – the car was rebuilt from bare metal and ground up, with the chassis/ tub fully restored and rotisserie painted with additional stonechip protection, the body fully refurbished again from bare metal, the car fully re-plumbed, re-wired, all drivetrain rebuilt, with photographic documentation of all stages throughout (see gallery end). The car has covered only small mileage since and more recently has had a front end respray here at Rawles Motorsport , with the rear end having been repainted not long after purchase around 5 years ago, meaning the exterior paint is in general less than 5 years old.
Mechanically this car is impeccable and a very rewarding car to drive. In 2025 we rebuilt the engine to fast road specification (it was not worn, the owner just desired the best he could get). This included new increased capacity pistons, fast road camshaft, fully balanced internals, lightened flywheel, cylinder head work, vernier timing work, aluminium back plate, uprated oil seals, porosity kit, high output oil pump, harmonic balancing damper, Rawles Motorsport fast flow inlet manifold, 2” SU carburettors. The industry refers to this engine as a 185BHP engine but the car has not been dyno tuned as the engine still has break-in mileage yet to cover. Additional upgrades include telescopic adjustable shock absorbers all-round for improved handling and refinement, a rear anti-roll bar for more neutral handling balance, 4-piston front brakes for increased stopping power plus an upgraded cooling system.
Inside the car has mellowed nicely since restoration, the seats in great condition free of rips or large scratches, all instrumentation correct gold dial originals and with new carpet just fitted as part of our sales process.
Additional upgrades include a tailored mohair hood and tonneau in Navy, 72 spoke wire wheels, Lucas spotlamps.
Provided serviced with MOT, British Motor Heritage Certificate of authenticity, large paperwork file and photographic documentation of renovation works.
