First built 12-14 July 1967, this Austin Healey 3000 MKIII represents the most desirable specification late Healey, as a final year of production car featuring all the refinements of a big Healey. The car was delivered to us with a unmolested body, chassis and engine/ drivetrain, with all original numbers intact making it an ideal candidate for a superb restoration. Most notably, the car was originally finished in the extremely desirable Healey Metallic Blue colour combination it still wears today.

Restoration of this car was comprehensive, with the car jig built and strengthened before being highly upgraded to our Revival Specification.

This is an extremely well known car, perhaps the most photographed in the world featuring in the one direction ‘Night Changes’ music video, numerous photoshoots for Vanity Fair magazine including an interview with Colin Firth, blog appearances and more. Displayed in many concourses.

Chassis

The original chassis was stripped down, shot blasted and then strengthened to aid handling and ride comfort. New floors and sills were required but front and rear bulkheads were very good and only required repairing.

To take advantage of added rigidity of the strengthened chassis, telescopic dampers and 4 piston brakes, both developed by ourselves, were added to increase roadholding, refinement and high-speed stability.

PAINT

Paintwork is the central part of a premium restoration and as such deserves to be of an impeccable finish. The car was coated from bare metal in multiple primers before 5 coats of base and a further 5 coats of clear were aded. The car was then flatted down to as fine as 500 grade before being machine compounded to a full gloss. The car was additionally seam-sealed for longevity of finish. Around 300 hours were spent painting the car, ensuring a glass-like finish.

ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN

The original engine was stripped down, chemically cleaned, crack and pressure tested before being refurbished to our ‘Rawles Revival Fast Road’ specification. This results in gains of around 35% to both power and torque at the wheels verified by our Mustang 1750DE dynamometer.

In addition to this, our unique 5-speed gearbox conversion was installed. This allows for greater acceleration and much more comfortable cruising due to lower engine speeds. This additionally has the added benefit of greatly reduced cockpit heat and noise plus greater fuel economy.
