DETAILS
This impressive looking 1957 Austin Healey 100/6 WSJ 175 is an original UK right hand drive, early Longbridge car which has been heavily upgraded and re-built to emulate it’s contemporary works race and rally cars of the period – known by the registrations PMO 203 and TON 792, whilst mechanical specification has been updated to that of a MkIII. Combined with the lighter 100/6 body this makes for a great performing and compliant, usable road car for the enthusiast.
Built 12th April 1957 and first restored in the 1980s/1990s by Allan Cameron of Old Dairy Classics, WSJ has received regularly attention having been resprayed again just before the millennium. Notably in 2012 Rawles Motorsport strengthened the chassis to improve the ride, handling and composure of the car. In 2000 WSJ was fitted with a later 2.9 litre Austin 3000 MkI block, cylinder head and camshaft bringing the car largely up to MkIII specification and now producing more in line with the 150BHP of that car versus 110 of a 100/6. In addition to this the engine was balanced to aid smoothness and ability to rev, plus a side exit exhaust was fitted for sound and aesthetics. In October 2022 the gearbox and overdrive was fully rebuilt. In 2020 new uprated shock absorbers were fitted and the car was given a major service plus the front grille was replaced and the boot retrimmed. Michelin XAS tyres have been fitted which are widely regarded as the best for Healeys and disc brakes matching those of a 3000 are also fitted to improve braking performance.
Works-style modifications include – very significantly – a black original factory hardtop – in itself a very valuable item and extremely desirable on its own, a side exit exhaust, de-bumpered body (the original bumpers are provided with the car, as is the original hood frame), works style grille with ducting and mesh panel, oil cooler ventilation holes to front shroud, rally headlamp guards, twin Lucas Spotlamps, bonnet pins plus a roll cage. The result is an excellent sporting aesthetic, a reduction in kerb weight plus additional cooling and safety.
Sold with British Motor Heritage certificate of authenticity, original buff log book, some restoration and period photos, large paperwork history file including service records, mot history and more. Sold with rare factory hardtop – genuine serial numbered item, side screens, bumpers, hood frame (no hood).
