Austin Healey 3000 MkIII – Ultimate Road/ Rally Car

DETAILS

LMK 369C is an extremely well-appointed example of the late and great Austin Healey 3000 MkIII Phase II, highly upgraded to an ‘ultimate road’ specification ideal both for enthusiastic driving and comfortable touring. This versatile car has incredible performance owing to years of development work from various industry professionals having first being developed for competitive events.

Restored by Rawles Motorsport in 2006 the car was then shipped to Denis Welch who rebuilt all the mechanicals. The car has covered just 15,000 miles since restoration with the majority of miles covered on the road. The car has been continually refreshed and extremely well maintained. As such this is a turn-key car ready to enjoy. It is reported £190,000 has been spent and the restoration (£70,000), maintenance and upgrades (£40,000 at Rawles Motorsport).

Finished in Ferrari Rosso Corsa with Silver works-style ventilated hardtop, silver lightweight mini-lite wheels, Cirrus interior with Grey carpet set with further body modifications of a louvred bonnet with leather straps, works ventilated wings, rear reversing lamp, bumper delete, front rally plaque holder, works style oil cooler ventilation and the very impressive works rally style side exit door integrated into the bodywork (an additional heat shield is provided, not currently fitted). A roll cage is fitted for safety. These features correctly emulate the very late works rally cars as suitable for this model and give a particularly fantastic, sporting aesthetic.

Engine, gearbox and differential:

The engine was rolling road tuned in October 2024 to produce 205HP and 214FT/LBS of torque which is approximately 70HP more than a standard engine would produce on a similar dyno. The engine was built by Denis Welch Motorsport in 2006/7 at the time of restoration/ build. Full engine specification includes:

Aluminium CNC Upgraded Cylinder Head, further gas flowing to cylinder head, lightened and polished rockers, high lift camshaft, gas flowed inlet manifold, triple 45 DCOE webber carburettors, lightened crank sprocket, competition rocker pedestals, Forged pistons, new bearings, balanced conrods, modified followers, new camshaft and uprated clutch, works style oil cooler performance exhaust manifold in conjunction with side exit exhaust, spare coil in engine bay, alternator conversion, large core radiator, additional electric fan, heat shielding to fuel lines, ram air ducting to carburettors and more.

The gearbox is a new ZF 5-speed fitted by Rawles Motorsport in 2019 with very low miles since. The 5-speed gearbox is more efficient, easier to use enabling a much faster gear change with full synchromesh in all gears, transmits more power to the wheels and less heat in the cabin. A short-shift gear lever has further been added.

The car is fitted with a competition differential and competition uprated halfshaft.

Suspension and Brakes

In 2019 Rawles Motorsport developed a unique shock absorber kit for this car, based upon their extremely popular Bilstein telescopic damper upgrade these custom shocks in their middle damper setting utilise the same damping rates but are further adjustable softer/firmer on all corners as desired. At the same time Rawles Motorsport fitted their 4-piston front brake calliper upgrade and previously overhauled the steering box. Also fitted are competition suspension components, a competition tandem braking system including upgraded servo. Tyres are Avon ZZ with good tread – these are the best tyres for a performance road Healey.

This could be the ultimate long distance touring, rally and events Healey. The car has had no expense spared in preparation and whilst it’s a quick, first class driving example, its equally impressive in presentation with beautiful paintwork, excellent bodywork, a stunning comfortable and upgraded interior and the underside, engine bay and boot compartment are incredibly clean. LMK 369C has an incredible specification and finding another Healey 3000 MKIII with this level of spec, in this condition, and this price point will surely prove difficult. It has had meticulous maintenance and upkeep and is certainly a car for the discerning buyer who really wants to use, drive and get out on the open road and cover some serious miles in a Healey. The car comes with an extensive history file to include all invoices, MOT certificates since rebuild and FIVA paperwork.
