1965 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII | New Rawles Motorsport Bespoke Roof & Carpet
DETAILS
SOLD.
This late Austin Healey 3000 MkIII is a Phase II BJ8 model, built on the 14thApril 1965 and as such features all final production refinements. Finished in Black with a Red interior, this Healey has benefitted from a dry climate all its life having been imported from Australia in 2016. The car has just received a fully hand-crafted mohair hood and new carpet from us in 2022.
The car has been in the same ownership since 1988 having been purchased from the Healey Factory of Melbourne as a very solid restoration project to then restored by Warwicks Autobahn in around 2000. Although the car was exceptionally rust free at the time, restoration was comprehensive with the car shot blasted back to bare metal and painted in stages. The engine was fully rebuilt to original specification. All body panels on the car remain originals, not aftermarket and as such body fit is excellent. Since restoration the car has covered less than 6,000 miles.
The car presents brilliantly today owing to warm climate preservation and low miles since restoration. Since restoration the car has received upgrades of a large core aluminium radiator and oil cooler suitable for the Australian heat, increased front camber, a brand new mohair Rawles tonneau in 2021 plus twin Lucas Spotlamps, power points, new tyres in 2018 and regular servicing by ourselves in 2022 as well as 20 and 19.
In 2022 the interior had a major revamp by ourselves with full Dynamat heat and sound insulation applied to the cabin and gearbox tunnel, a full made to measure Deep Red carpet set with Red leather bound edging plus a full overhaul of the roof and mechanism including rejigging the hood frame, refurbished and re-wrapped hood woods, all new seals plus a fully made-to-measure black mohair hood – vastly improving the weather proofing, wind-noise and appearance of the car over the original and kit items applied to most cars.
Sold serviced and with MOT, British Motor Heritage Certificate of Authenticity, tonneau, photographic documentation of restoration plus Rawles Motorsport hood and carpet build, and service history.
