DETAILS

Of the 355 MkII Two-Seat Healeys (BN7), just 34 were built for right hand drive markets. Of these 34 just 11 were the later more desirable centre-change cars. Of those 11 cars, 5 were factory racers leaving just 6 customer cars delivered in the same factory configuration as the racers. This Healey, USU 985 is one of those 6 ‘holy grail’ finds Healey enthusiasts get very excited about, combining the beautiful triple carburettor engine with a more sporty and shorter throw gearbox and providing the most power and refinement available in any two-seat production Healey.

Finished in British Racing Green, USU 985 has fantastic ownership traceability from new and prior to current ownership was owned for 30 years by a ex-British Motor Corporation/ Austin Healey (BMC) trained garage operator. In 1991 this BMC approved technician restored the car fully from the ground up with the car having covered just 14,000 miles since. Restoration was comprehensive with the car taken completely back to bare metal and the engine, axle and gearbox and overdrive rebuilt, the car rewired, re-plumbed and all chrome refinished.

The car is currently part of the Rawles Motorsport/ Cluett private collection and has received major works in 2020/21 by us mechanically including a new servo and full brake overhaul. In 2022 the car has had a bit of a cosmetic renewing with paintwork again by us at Rawles Motorsport to remove stone chips and other minor defects ensuring a very good exterior finish with the cockpit trims returned to their original silver anodised finish.

Inside USU is very smartly presented with Black leather seating and Black carpet in very good condition. All the gauges are original to the car and operational. Most interestingly this car continues to stun with a host of very rare factory fit options including a 600TD radio and speaker – items we just never see which (the speaker unit) very pleasingly remains in the car. USU features the full complement of Healey wet-weather gear including Black Everflex hood and tonneau plus aluminium sidescreens.

Sold serviced with MOT, British Motor Heritage Certificate of Authenticity, Everflex hood, tonneau, Thor jack and hammer, photographic documentation of restoration and history file.
