Austin Healey 3000 MkIII Phase II

DETAILS

As car 42588 VYY 76E is one of the last 500 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII ever produced and as such features all final production specification revisions. This includes a 150BHP six cylinder engine with 2” SU carburettors, a 4-speed overdrive gearbox (giving a total of 6 ratios) with a short throw centre change, a more refined wrap-around windscreen and pram style hood plus improved ground clearance and a more sophisticated rear axle design.

VYY 76E was restored between 1998 and 2001 with 36,000 miles covered since. Restoration included a rebuild to the engine including a new block, new pistons, new camshaft, aluminium unleaded head, stainless steel exhaust, new harmonic dampener and more. The conversion from LHD to RHD was undertaken by a specialist including a new steering box. The car was then painted around this time and the carpets replaced plus the hood and hood bag which are still in good condition.

This is a very original car with original panels, its original seats and some very nice period features including chromo mono spotlamp, a period chrome aerial and radio system with walnut facia, late octagonal wheel nuts on chrome wire wheels. With this originality and the age of the restoration it should be known that there are some defects on the paint and underneath the car, most notably the bottoms of the wings have quite significant corrosion although this is not structural and the car has just passed a MOT test.

It is thought that the car has had just three owners and also included in the history file is a communication from 1968 from agent to the buyer of the new car. The car has good MOT history and paperwork since restoration.

Conclusively this is a nice driving Healey which is an excellent driver quality example to use and enjoy as is or at some point in the future improve.

Sold with British Motor Heritage Certificate, original period adverts, paperwork history file, American title, restoration invoices and more.
